On December 09, 2017, a charity water polo match between Olympic champions in various sports took place in Kazan at the Burevestnik Sports Complex. 2 teams were formed: the team of swimmer Alexander Popov and the team of wrestler Alexander Karelin. As expected, the wrestling team won. There was also a meeting between the three-time Olympic champion, hero of Russia Alexander Karelin and the Secretary General of the International Belt Wrestling Federation Khabir Khabibullin. At this meeting, the prospects for further development of belt wrestling and the activities of the International Belt Wrestling Federation were discussed.
